What Indians Lack : Love (period)

IndiBlogger BadgeWhich bad habit of Indians would you like to change for our India? #ChangeBadHabit4India
I read the topic and was Grrrr... This girl. She loves conflict! Well,Anita, here is my take on us :) Smile is for you otherwise the topic you posted,is no smiling matter. At all...

No spitting
Be hygienic.
Keep your surroundings clean.
Respect Public Property.
Respect women... small girls.
Don't attend to yours' and your brood's Nature's call as per your wish.
Don't mark heritage sites.........
Why, the list is endless..

What we can learn from this seemingly  never ending list is that we lack in one quality, the essential - National Character.
Mother calls it Rashtriya Charitra.

We don't love our country.
Lack of this one trait make us slave to all the above mentioned habits... otherwise how come as soon as we land on Heathrow Airport,we become civilised ,right from inside the plane! We don't push our co-passengers, which you can witness in domestic flights in a mild form. And to experience it in full bloom, travel in any private/roadways bus on NH 24 .I'll guarantee you minimum two bruises, a sprained joint and bump in head.
.
We don't love our land...
and Oh! I have to define 'land' as its meaning differ for us.Life is no Chennai Express.South meets North.

We don't love our people.
52 died from the  '........ area' the newsreader reported. Proffesor/Minister/Doctor/Vakil sahib asked his son," Come again, which area,Oho... that.., good all are ...*...muslims/biharis/harijans/ tussi-mussi/rajput/...etc there. Its better they fight among themselves and die.Worms! " The son looks at him in disbelief and changes the channel to MTV. He found relief in Roadies....uber cool dudes, hot chicks, same dirty games, mouthing same filth he conversed in...its sort of de-stressing.He is the bhavi karndhaar of the country.
We don't love family.
We hate when our junior in office wants to go home at 5:30, half hour late !! and we try our best to make his life miserable. If we truly care for our family,we will never make him stay late just to listen our bragging.Spouse/kids are like medals to be shown providing emotional security, a satisfaction of ego and future... Perennially young, radiant wife, topper kids, loving calm parents, gleaming house, Facebook updates of exotic locales... surmise for happy family.

We don't love work.
Most of us are stuck with it for the roti, kapda, makan and hates it with every atom of our being.Naturally we don't get job satisfaction or work pleasure. Lack of intellectual challenge paves way for dirty politics.

Most of us don't love beauty.
The mining at the heritage sites, crumbling palaces, temples and daragahs, lakes paved with sand for malls, trees cut for hoardings and parks converted into noisy units to build concrete blocks, prove we don't care a copper about beauty, calm or environment.

We simply don't love ourselves.
Is the root of the problem. We are a prejudiced, insecure and contradictory lot...we are disdainful of our people and appreciate them only once awarded by certified body- read foreign universities and agencies.  She says the day we start loving ourselves, love as in Prem not Moh ,the pieces will fall in place.
Its passion which make us go places, love makes home a safe place.

    1. Phir bhi dil hai Hindustani :) :D... Glad Roohi you liked it and your mention of the song made me intelligent to another thing... when a visibly distraught Helen/Jay Shree T. asks the Hero, "what is there in her which I lack ?? main us se zyada khoobsurat hoon, ye hoon, woh hoon... phir kyon? aakhir kyon?" Well the answer is "Heart has its own reasons which reason knows nothing about " ... SO, its not only that India boasts of a variety of seasons, land and culture but simply ... ab jo bhi hai, yaar jeena yahan, marna yahan.. gussa aa jaata hai.. but we can't help loving it :) :)

Thanks Vidya for supporting me as I was sach mein not sure if I was striking the right chord ... am still not sure .. but looking at the comments without deconstruction by Rachna :P I can guess we feel pretty similar.. I feel LOVE is important as it makes you care and regard the object ... and we are not loving our nation, race, culture, family and ourselves. Glad you liked it... and Thankd for stopping by :)

    1. I was smiling while reading your Shweta, an affectionate smile :) Its good you feel the longing and remembers the good things...but living here is certainly different and that does not mean I don't love India.
In fact am feeling too much for her(India).. this behaviour of ours feel like outstripping her modesty... I want the people who illegally mines the earth to be 1000 feet under those mounds of earth... those who jets out poisonous chemicals in the Yamuna and the Ganges, to be drowned in it and let their bodies float init till bloated and feasted by vultures.... those who pressurize guardians of molested girls to 'tone down' their complaints to be castrated .... what else.... I seethe.
And then There is nowhere on this earth I'd rather be.... Perhaps,Its the Fault in our stars..

  10. Bull's eye Kokila..you've pointed out all the facts and too in a most logical manner....How come we get civilized while in a foreign country ? ( at least we don't dare messing around in the way we do in our own ). We need to change the mind-set....God knows when will that happen .... :-(

    1. Yes Maniparna, THIS duality pains me. I am more embarrassed to see an Indian behaving nicely off-shores than I am looking at him painting the road here red ...with betel juice.
If we do it there we can definitely do it here ..then WHY NOT?Simple. We just don't feel for the land yaar.. that dual nature is disgusting!! and remember the Indians who travel abroad are the educated and the 'good' ones :(

  12. You've hit the nail on the head!
We love our own houses, so we keep them clean. We don't love our country, so we dump garbage, etc. all over the place.
We respect other countries, so we follow the rules there. We don't respect India, so we don't follow the rules here. But ... some of us misbehave badly when we are abroad, and lower India's image, as described in my post http://proactiveindian.com/2013/08/13/promoting-brand-india/

    1. Thanks for being here Pro...and am glad if you think these are valid points. I read the post you mentioned and sadly, I too am guilty of point 7... though I have found a way out now :) See I have tried to deal with this issue from what I feel as the the root cause , as we do in philosophy.... all evils starts from 'me' .... If only 'I' can be improved ...

  13. Kokila I felt you have read my mind, esp on loving our people & for natural aspects. It's ironical while we are away from our country, we feel struck & helpless to be a change. When we are there, we acts like perpetrators, it's like what we say Jugaad wale kaam, aur jugaad wali life, Jugaad sirf jugaad lagana ?
but overall I feel if we talk endlessly about our Rights, we forget to take note to act on our Duties too as mentioned in our Constitution.
Ending this note with a quote :-) "Be the change that you wish to see in the world". Good Wishes!

    1. Ruchi.. you have become my 'Quotable quote Kosh !! :) And I lam loving it ........ Your line about the Rights and Duty is something I have been trying to make people around me understand ,including my family .... I have failed miserably.
Its a great concept and I am so glad that you have raised it .. Like mindedness again.. I guess :)
